Wallet & KYC

Wallet & KYC · why the verification step exists

A neutral explainer on the KYC (Know Your Customer) check — why it exists, what the platform needs, and the small mistakes that stall a withdrawal request.

KYC is a regulator-mandated check, not a marketing form.
Why KYC exists

Three reasons, all of them regulatory

1. Anti-money-laundering

KYC is required by India’s anti-money-laundering framework. The check is the platform’s compliance with the regulator’s rules.

2. Account takeover prevention

KYC ties the account to a verified identity, which makes it much harder for a stolen password to become a stolen balance.

3. Withdrawal integrity

The KYC document is matched to the bank account at withdrawal time. The check is the cleanest way to ensure the money goes to the right person.

What the platform needs

The standard KYC fields

FieldTypical requirementNotes
Government IDAadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter IDAt least one is required. Most platforms accept a clear photograph of the original document.
Address proofAadhaar, utility bill, bank statementRecent document, usually within the last 3 months.
Bank accountAccount number, IFSC, name on accountName must match the KYC document.
UPI handleVerified UPI IDName must match the KYC document.
Selfie verificationLive photograph, sometimes with ID held upUsed for liveness check by some platforms.
The small mistakes

What stalls the KYC review

Blurry document photo

A document photograph that is too dark, too bright, or out of focus is the most common reason the platform asks for a re-submission.

Name mismatch

The name on the KYC document must match the name on the bank account. A mismatch (a middle name missing, a different spelling) stalls the withdrawal even after KYC approval.

Expired document

An expired passport or driver’s licence is not accepted. The platform’s help page lists the accepted documents and their validity requirements.

Wrong document type

Some platforms accept only specific combinations. The help page lists the combinations the platform supports.

Privacy is a small, careful task

The KYC document is sensitive. Share it only with the platform’s official verification flow — not over SMS, not over WhatsApp, not to a customer-care agent who asks for it by message. A legitimate platform never asks for the document by message.

Reader questions

What readers ask about KYC

How long does KYC take?

Most platforms complete the KYC review in 24–48 hours. The platform’s help page shows the typical review time. If the review is taking longer, customer care can provide a status update.

Can I use a family member’s bank account?

No. The KYC document and the bank account must be in the same name. Using a different name is a regulatory violation and will result in the withdrawal being declined.

What about Aadhaar privacy?

Most platforms use Aadhaar for KYC through the UIDAI-mandated offline verification path. The Aadhaar number is not stored on the platform’s servers. The platform’s privacy policy explains the data flow.

The verification flow

What happens at each step

1. Government ID

The platform requires a government-issued ID — Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID. At least one is required. The document is the cleanest single signal of the player’s identity.

2. Address proof

The platform requires an address proof — Aadhaar, utility bill, bank statement. The document is the cleanest single signal of the player’s address.

3. Bank account or UPI

The platform requires a bank account or UPI handle in the player’s name. The name on the bank account or UPI handle must match the KYC document. The match is the cleanest single signal of a smooth withdrawal.

4. Selfie verification

Some platforms use a selfie or a live photograph for liveness check. The selfie is the cleanest single signal that the KYC is not a stolen document.

5. KYC review
